ABOUT THE ARTIST

Growing up in a small town in Alabama, I never would have imagined becoming a creative talent in New York City, but it was never placed out of the realm of possibility. Coming from a very musical family,  and a brilliant mother who has been everything from a background country singer to a Tina Turner impersonator, I have always been taught to express my creativity in every situation. By my twenties, I had been a fine artist, played 3 instruments, been both a musical theater and commercial actor, a gymnastics coach and college cheerleader... I used to be schizophrenic but we're okay now.

I attended the University of Alabama (Roll TIDE Roll!!) where I began my college career as a Civil Engineer but quickly became enamored with design, advertising and the creative world by my sophomore year. To much chagrin from many of my scientific peers, I switched majors to Communications with a creative focus. I was told many times over the only common description for a career artist is "starving," but I had to follow my passion and I happily clung to TV shows like Bewitched and Nineties movies like Boomerang, all cementing a dream of  forging a fun, yet promising career in a creative field. After graduating fourth in my class with honors,  I found myself working in Atlanta for a decade and then made the jump in New York and never looked back. Across my career, I have traveled across 42 states in the US, Mexico, South America and Europe (with sights set on Africa and Australia this year). I have made friends and had experiences that span every culture, religion, orientation and language possible and those influences have made not only my life experience richer but have also colored my design sensibility.

As a designer, my personal design aesthetic is clean and modern, spartan and masculine but secure enough to show its feminine side and cry after Steel Magnolias. I eat, breathe, sleep and long for beautiful design.  I could literally sustain my life force on Helvetica, Futura and Swiss styles, but will take Bodoni in any weight for dessert. I love visuals that speak to me and I art direct them to be an experience in the moment. I yearn for images that tell a story and move someone to see themselves. I revel in a grid that feels boundless. I celebrate in color. I can personally stroll out the house in buffalo plaid one minute and lavender the next.

I've become the living embodiment of Cream of Wheat, or as my mother calls them "Yankee Grits." I have  embraced a newfound New York sensibility without losing my Southern charm and demeanor and I will use "y'all" in a sentence any day of the week with as much pride as I have in knowing the coolest hidden speakeasy in The City. I prefer a good Kentucky bourbon over gin or vodka and am certain that world peace and new lifelong friends can both be discovered over an amazing cocktail hour. I am a velvet hammer. I fully believe in a no asshole policy and that good guys prevail.  I believe in Superman.
